Dr. Gopi Munisamy
Gopi Munisamy is currently Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia, Athens. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Gopi holds a Master’s in Agricultural Economics and Bachelor’s in Agricultural Sciences, both from India. Most recently, Gopi was a Senior Executive in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, where he managed a program of economic research and analysis on U.S. and global economic and policy factors affecting the structure and performance of agricultural markets and trade. His responsibilities included understanding emerging trends in agricultural markets and trade, and providing objective and timely information for public and private decision making.
Before joining USDA, he was Professor and Director of the Applied Economics Program at Oregon State University. Gopi has nearly three decades of academic and public service experience on trade policy, market intelligence and forecasts, regional and national economic development, and agricultural policy. He has published about 100 research and policy articles and made major presentations at WTO, OECD, World Bank, IFPRI and other national and international organizations including in China, Japan, S. Korea, India, Chile, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and others. Gopi has been professionally recognized with multiple awards and honors including elected Chair of OECD’s Global Forum on Agriculture, International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium and AAEA’s International Section; WAEA Outstanding Published Research Award; and service on the Editorial Board of major agricultural economics journals.
